Kinesiology is not a spiritual modality; it is actually based heavily on scientific background. Understandably the concept of the body doing weird things or answering subconscious questions can seem a little farfetched and out of this world. Hence the reason I am writing this post.
Over the past few months I have received many questions and a lot of sceptic remarks relating to Kinesiology. Feelings and thoughts that it is going against God’s work or that it is conjuring up spirits and channelling them through to get results. Funnily enough this modality couldn’t be more science based and very little of it actually refers to anything ‘spiritual’. I would like to take this opportunity to share with you what I have found with Kinesiology and a little about its background. Firstly, Kinesiology was discovered in the 1960’s by a Chiropractor named Dr George Goodheart who originally used ‘muscle testing’ to evaluate the body throughout treatments. He then found that holding certain parts of the body could generate longer and stronger results for his clients. He found that specific muscles within the body were associated to specific organs and functions of the body. By using the art of ‘Muscle Testing’ he could use the body, or more specifically the muscles, as a personal feedback system for each client. Muscle testing was developed in the 1930’s and it is the act of testing the resilience or function of a particular muscle by applying a light amount of pressure to it. In neurology textbooks muscle testing is defined as “a means of testing the motor function of limbs”. By isolating a single muscle and putting it into a contracted position we are able to assess its function and in turn use it as a bio-feedback system for the body. Muscle testing allows a practitioner to communicate directly with the body, making the most substantial and honest feedback system known to man. No equipment, technology or machinery is needed, simply the muscles of the body. With the finest of touch and pressure used, the need for manipulation is minimal. Since those humble beginnings Kinesiology has developed into a modality of its own, encompassing Eastern and Western medical techniques to further restore balance to the body. Kinesiology works with the entire body including all its systems, functions, muscles and organs. It is a core belief within Kinesiology that the body can heal itself. For me personally, Kinesiology first came to me when I was 18 years old. My mother and sister had been visiting one for various reasons and were absolutely blown away with the results. When they came home and explained to me what occurred and the means of testing throughout a session I thought this was complete rubbish. Originally I thought the whole concept was completely out there and so ridiculous. At the time it was fair to say I was more than sceptical. It wasn’t until I experienced Kinesiology for the first time on a demonstration evening. The practitioner asked me to get on stage and began doing some weird things with my arms (muscle testing). He then continued to explain to me that I suffered from lower back pain and gave me a brief outline as to why this was happening. Previously I had worked with Chiropractors, Acupuncturists, Massage Therapists and had taken many supplements to help me with my back pain. Continually I was told the pain was caused by ‘growing too quickly’ or ‘from playing too many sports.’ Each of these modalities helped for several days or several weeks but would only seem to ‘band-aid’ the problem. (Please also note that I am not demeaning any of these modalities, they are all equally as amazing but for this specific issue they didn’t work for me.) The Kinesiologist then went on to tell me the pain was actually being caused by one of my kidneys and stress that was being held there. Still thinking this was rather ‘whacky’ he then continued to rub some points on the front of my chest which as I now understand are correction points related to the kidneys. To my surprise he only used light touch and rubbed these points for about 30 secs whilst talking to me about some emotions and feelings that are generally related to this area. He then asked me to stand up and move around to see how my back was feeling. Incredibly I rose from the table completely pain free and absolutely blown away. To this day I have not suffered back pain like that again. This experience is what converted my way of thinking. Without referring to a text book and trying to diagnose the issue it was dealt with from its point of origin. We are all individual, meaning we are all completely unique. What works for me may not work for you and visa-versa but I feel the most beautiful thing about Kinesiology is it is not based on what happens for anyone else, but simply what happens for YOU. We all have the capability to live optimally healthy, happy and free from pain. We have an inbuilt healing process within our body that works to ensure we sustain this point of living. Unfortunately this process can become blocked and seemingly inactive due to stresses, emotions and traumas. Kinesiology is not about being spiritually enlightened, predicting the future or knowing everything that happens within the world. It is simply about asking the right questions and allowing the body to speak. No-one is born to suffer or live a difficult life, to me Kinesiology is the key to this optimal way of living.

You deserve this time to heal, repair and change. Our own personal limitations are the ONLY restraint in life that holds us back from radiating fully.
Other peoples opinions and judgements are a direct reflection on us. They are not truth but they give us space to decipher how we wish to wear them. How we wish to perceive and value our own place within this world. In the expanse of unconditional love and adoration for self; within these negative statements, thoughts and perceptions we continue to grow into our own power. Hindered not by what others discern, empowered simply by our own truth. Remember you are beautiful. You are free. You are entitled to be whoever you want to be! May we all attain peace, love and happiness. So often we can find ourselves dwelling on the past. Filling our minds (and in turn lives) with statements like “I wish I did this”, “I wish I didn't do that” and so on. Hindsight becomes our greatest enemy and before we know it we are holding ourselves back from moving forward. Unfortunately, no one has invented a time travelling machine so we can't change what has happened in the past. But what we can change is our relationship to it and even our future to come. I know this sounds cliché but I would like to challenge you on this idea.
If you could go back to a time in the past that may have been less than easy for you; what would you say to yourself? What words of advice would you offer? Would it be something positive like "things WILL get better" or "keep going you are almost there" or would it be something negative. Now just sit with either outcome for a moment and begin to assess the feelings and/or thoughts that arise from these. Begin to notice how you are feeling or in fact how you are holding yourself. With the negative you might be finding yourself slumping slightly, your head tilted down and an overwhelming feeling of disappointment or sadness creeping in. Now letting that go and assess the feelings of the positive. Begin to notice how this makes you feel; elated, feeling lighter, taller, a sense of happiness and hope. So with this idea let’s bring this into present time and into your present life. We all come from completely different backgrounds and are most likely in very different situations at the moment. There may be something occurring within your own life that seems rather distasteful or unpleasant at the moment. Let’s use this technique of sending a positive message to ourselves. Imagine your future self coming to deliver you a message. Really feel this message. I want you to really imagine this happening. Hold this thought and feeling for a moment and then reassess how it feels. This may not be physically changing this current situation in any way, but what it may be doing is changing our relationship to it. Instead of viewing these situations as something that is energy lowering, or inevitable, maybe we can begin to see this as something temporary. Something that can teach us valuable lessons or help us to grow and learn. This simple concept is something that can be incorporated throughout all situations within our lives and the whole point of this is to simply show how powerful it can be when we hold onto perceptions or feelings within our minds. Positive or Negative – how do these affect you and how do you choose to let them affect you. Kahuna Massage is a Hawaiian style of massage that has the ability to bring balance between the body and mind. Kahuna is a very unique style of massage where the practitioner uses hands, forearms and elbows and moves around the client in a very flowing, graceful manner. Soft and deep tissue is applied to the client’s needs using the practitioner’s body weight.
